Almost 2 years ago in 2021, we had our very first FEMME FEST event at Amore Gardens, Lekki, and the girls came out and showed up to celebrate some of the hottest female talent in Nigeria.Back then, FEMME FEST was simply an answer to the question: Why isn’t there a space for more young, amazing women to support female-owned businesses, have fun and listen to female artists that have otherwise been sidelined in mainstream media? It was a time where we were fed up with the low representation and visibility of women in the creative scene. We saw how female voices, needs and wants are routinely pushed to the side and ranked low in importance. We were desperate for a change, so we created FEMME FEST.

For us, existing in the fringes simply won’t do and we’ve made it our mission to lead the charge in achieving a more equitable landscape that prioritises female empowerment. At FEMME FEST in 2021, we saw the collective power of support and what happens when people show up for the causes they care about. We had lots of shopping in our female vendor village, the most stylish festival attendees in Lagos (listen, lewks were served) and some serious dance moves as we vibed to headlining acts like Ayra Starr, Teni Entertainer and Lady Donli. A time was had and this year, we’re doing it even bigger.
