Here’s what dropped in November
In Bloody Civilian’s debut single “How To Kill A Man”, the 25-year-old Abuja-based artist channels the rage of what it’s like to be a Nigerian woman into a powerful anthem. In the nearly 3-minute track, Bloody Civilian (real name Emoseh Khamofu ), commands our attention with raw energy as we listen to her rally against the sexist oppressive structures women face.
Following the song’s October’s release, she was back again with the same energy but on an even bigger stage: the Black Panther Wakanda Forever soundtrack. On “Wake Up” featuring Rema, she evokes the feeling of hustle and grind in a world that demands so much from you. In her own words she described the process of being on the soundtrack as ” surreal” and hopes to connect more with her fanbase and produce music for other artists.
“Wake Up” is featured on our 3rd instalment of our For Your Ears Only playlist and since its November release, it has racked up an impressive 1.5M+ plays on Spotify.
On this month’s For Your Ears Only playlist, we also featured music from rising singer-songwriter Somadina, who’s consistently been crafting her unique sound. Her recently released project, Heart Of The Heavenly Undeniable, features some of the hottest talent in the industry right now such as Grammy-nominated Soft Glas & GMK, Neo-Soul talent Chi Virgo (who’s also on this month’s playlist btw with her song “Social Angst”), Highlife band The Cavemen and up and coming artist L0la. If you’re someone who likes get to get in their feels or just need a cathartic release, give this project a listen. Standout tracks include: “WDYMFM” ft Lola, “Crzy Girl” and “Dreams”.

Also on the playlist is @theriasean‘s “Why” ft @ayrastarr which is a melodic tune about unrequited love. Honestly, this is the duo we didn’t know we needed and we’re here for this collab. “Why” is featured on Ria Sean’s recently released 6-track EP Love Station.
